The Shock and Impact Dynamics Laboratory (SIDL) is housed in the civil engineering department at Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. The SIDL caters to research and development related to structures and materials such as concrete, steel, and other composites under high strain rate loading. The laboratory caters to the civil and defence sector of the nation and acts as a nodal point to meets the R&D needs for the development of novel materials to mitigate and overcome the shock and impact events (explosion, bullets, precision guided munitions).

Laboratory facilities

Following facilities are currently housed in the laboratory:

  1. Shock loading test setup
  2. High-velocity impact setup
  3. Split Hopkinson pressure bar
